Shurbeez Policies 2024
Shurbeez Waiting List
Cost/Fees
2. Shurbeez Waiting List fee = $200, is NON-Refundable, and will be combined with the Holding fee of the puppy of the buyer’s choice.
3. Holding fee of 50% of puppy's purchase price is placed at the time you pick out a specific puppy, due within 48 hours of choosing your puppy. This fee combines your $200 Waiting List fee and an additional sum to total 50% of the puppy's price - and is 100% NON-refundable - as it is your guarantee that one specific puppy will be held for you until it is paid in full and ready to come home to you.
4. All ‘Meet half-way’, ‘Transportation’, ‘Extended Stay’, ‘Flight Nanny’, and ‘Health Certificate’ fees are to be paid by the buyer in addition to the puppy price. See our Transportation page for fees associated with these options.
5. ALL Puppy fees must be paid in full before the puppy is released from the breeder's possession, and by the contracted date (two weeks before going home) or the contract is void and all fees are forfeited to the breeder, unless prior arrangements are made and agreed to in writing, by the breeder.
6. If Shurbeez Shih Tzu cancels any sale, all money, including holding fee, will be returned to the buyer.
7. If the buyer backs out on the sale of a pup after a Holding Fee Contract is signed, - any money paid can be transferred to another pup in a later litter for up to one year from Holding Fee contract date. If a buyer changes their mind and no longer wants the puppy they chose, then any purchase price paid can be refunded (after pup is sold to another buyer), minus the holding fee and any extended stay fees of $30 per day (until pup is sold to new buyer).
Contracts
3. Guardian puppies are likewise not considered under contract or available to take home until the Shurbeez Guardian Contract is signed and the breeder deems them ready to leave.
4. No puppy will be sold or leave our premises until a Shurbeez Contract is signed and returned to us and paid in full.
5. Any breach of contract will be litigated for no less than $5,000 per breach and buyers are responsible to pay for all of our reasonable costs and necessary disbursements and attorneys' fees incurred in enforcing any contract disputes.

Return of Puppy
2. At any time, our puppies/dogs can be returned to us. **If returned within one week of original purchase, the buyer can expect a full refund - minus the original waiting list fee and fees for veterinary re-examination and any treatment, 2 week quarantine, and/or medical or behavioral needs that must be addressed before rehoming. Refund is never issued before the vet exam, quarantine, and/or treatment is concluded (if necessary), and a new home is found.
3. If puppy/dog is returned later than one week after original sale, then, after a new home is found for a returned pup/dog, we can offer a portion of the sale price to you, (we will keep the amounts spent for vet exams, tests, medications, boarding, re-training, etc see #2 above. The leftover proceeds will be given to the returnee after the pup goes to its new home. The partial refund, will not be given to you until the dog has been to the vet, treated (if necessary), behavioral issues addressed if any, sold, and delivered to a new home.)
4. A refund will not be rewarded to any individual if the puppy is found to be neglected, abused, in poor condition due to actions of the buyer, or if the buyer is in breach of contract.
5. If you resell the puppy that we sold to you (or give it away), without our consent, you will be in breach of contract and liable for liquidated damages of no less than $5,000, plus all of our legal fees and reasonable expenditures to prosecute.
6. Any owner who gives or sells one of our puppies or their offspring at auction, to a pet store, a puppy mill operation, a dog pound/shelter, a puppy flipper, a dog rescue, a dog broker, a disreputable breeder, or any similar enterprise will be in breach of contract and be subject to litigation of no less than $5,000 per breach.
AKC Papers
1. Breeder will register each litter born with limited AKC rights. (Except if full rights are granted).
2. Papers will not be sent home and AKC numbers will not be given to new owners when puppy goes home unless it is sold with Full Breeding Rights. (Sadly, because of dishonest people trying to breed without permission and registering puppies/dogs with disreputable registries to look more legit we have employed these measures. Thank you for understanding.)
3. After puppy has been surgically sterilized, and proof has been sent to and received by the Breeder, we will transfer ownership to the new owner and AKC certificate will be sent to the buyer via email, if desired. There will be no further cost to you unless you want to order a pedigree from AKC.org.
- Shurbeez Shih Tzu reserves the right of first choice of any puppies for our own program, for guardian puppies, or for breeding trades to further our program goals.
- ALL potential owners must fill out an application to be considered for one of our puppies.
- After being approved for the Waiting List, potential owners will not be placed on the list until the $200 fee has been paid. (two weeks are given as a courtesy before the application is archived and the applicant will have to re-apply if fee hasn't been paid)
- All approved and paid members are placed on a numerical list and will choose in the order they are on the list. We only have one list and it operates solely on the basis of what date you’re added to the list. **When you're at the top of the list you will be given the opportunity to choose next regardless of what gender, color, or specific breeding pair you may have requested. If you pass on the litter you will still stay at the top until you choose a puppy.
- Shurbeez Shih Tzu reserves the right to add or remove any Waiting List members, according to our program needs or if we feel the potential home is no longer the best fit for our puppies (Waiting List fee would be refunded if said individual is removed by us).
- Previous Shurbeez Shih Tzu owners can be added to the Waiting List without an application or phone interview.
- Previous owners, breeders, friends, and family will NOT skip to the top of the waiting list, unless being added as a guardian family. (Guardian families receive my pick of the litter or a puppy I purchase or save for my program.)
Cost/Fees
- Puppy price is determined by the breeder. (we reserve the right to periodically reevaluate our prices and change it based on our own costs of operation) Currently the price is $2800+.
- Each pup in the litter is the same price regardless of gender or color.
- Stated puppy price is for Limited AKC papers (not given to buyers until proof of surgical sterilization)
- Full AKC Rights are not given for pet puppies.
- Breeder reserves the right to consider the sale of puppy voided by buyer, cancel the sale, (without a refund given), and void a contract - if pup remains in the breeder’s care at the age of 12.5 weeks with no pre-arranged plan for the puppy’s future, or unpaid balance. Breeder will attempt to contact the buyer no less than three times before cancelling the sale/contract.
- Extended Stay fees are accrued at $30/day past the go-home date for the first 7 days, $35/day after that. They must be paid in full before the puppy will be released to new owners.
Contracts
- If a potential owner rents their dwelling, they must submit a Rental Permission Form that has been signed by the property owner or manager before being considered for a puppy.
- No puppy is considered officially on-hold until the full Holding Fee is paid, and the Holding Fee Agreement is signed (and rental agreement if necessary).
Go-Home Date
- Go-home date is usually between 9-12 weeks of age and determined by the breeder.
- Will be clearly stated on the contract, and Shurbeez will make arrangements with you about how you want to pick up your puppy.
- Pup must be picked up or have a flight arranged by the buyer for the go-home day date, if possible.
- Pups being transported by Shurbeez will be arranged early, but may not fall on the ‘go-home’ date to facilitate the buyers picking up at our home, airport delivery, etc.
- We will NOT allow any of our puppies to be transported by any ground transport companies unless they are known and trusted by Shurbeez. (...there is only 1 local company we know of that we 100% trust) ground transport is just not a great way to get a puppy from one place to another - it is extremely stressful!
Extended Stay
- Extended stay is arranged for any puppies staying past the go-home date, except those who will not be leaving because of a different ‘meet-half-way’ date.
- Fees are $30 daily and include food, regular care and continued training.
- If Extended Stays are planned for longer than one week then the fee increases to $35/day.
- It is up to the discretion of Shurbeez if the Extended Stay fees apply to puppies staying beyond ‘go-home’ date for reasons other than a different transportation date.
Surgical Sterilization
- If a puppy is sold with limited AKC rights then Shurbeez requires proof of traditional spay, traditional neuter, ovary sparing spay, canine vasectomy, etc. before the age of 6 months and pup must never be bred. Proof of surgical sterilization from a certified veterinarian must be sent to Shurbeez.
- If a puppy is sold with Full AKC rights, the new owner is contractually obligated to not breed a female pup before the age of 14 months and a male dog before the age of 12 months. Other restrictions apply to puppies sold with Full Rights.
- Any owner of a dog sold with Limited AKC rights who chooses not to surgically sterilize, breed without permission, etc, will be litigated for no less than $10,000 per puppy born AND each breach of contract.
Microchipping
- Shurbeez can microchip each pup if the new owner agrees. There is NO charge for the microchip or registration.
- Shurbeez will provide the microchip ID number to the new owner on the contract on the ‘go-home’ date.
- We will register the microchip with your contact information. There are no annual fees for maintaining the registration.
- **Before we microchip any puppy - we will have a conversation about it. We are aware some states will only allow a microchip to be placed by an in-state licensed veterinarian for their 'Lifetime Dog Registration' requirements.
Vaccination
- Our contract does not cover illnesses that can be prevented by proper vaccination. Please continue to vaccinate your puppy on time, if necessary. Our warranty does not cover illnesses/diseases if you take your puppy out in public before fully vaccinated or if over-vaccinated. We also suggest, and teach you where to send a serum sample, for a puppy titer to make sure your puppy is covered. We will send home information on how to do this at a minimal cost to you ($45 to UofW Madison CAVIDS lab).
- Our Health Warranty is void if you choose to let your veterinarian vaccinate your puppy with the leptospirosis vaccine before the age of 1 year.
- Our puppies are vaccinated under the supervision of our veterinarian with an individual litter plan, based on the Nomograph test from each mother. This Nomograph test gives us mom's individual immunity level and tells us exactly when the puppies are most likely to be able to accept the vaccine.
- **We do not support over-vaccination, please do not let your vet start a new series of shots for your puppy.
Return of Puppy
- If you cannot keep your puppy, you are contractually obligated to contact us first. We have first right of refusal for purchasing the puppy back for the no more than the original purchase price (minus the holding fee). We can help find your dog a new home with a trusted individual so this puppy/dog and new owner can be contractually protected. We prefer to send our puppies to homes with contracts in place.
- The exception to this contractual obligation is the rehoming of a dog sold with Full AKC rights. If we do not want to buy the puppy back from a breeder who has purchased Full AKC rights, they may choose to place the puppy/dog in a guardian home or carefully re-home after the breeding career ends.
