Our Guardian program is designed with our dog's best interests in mind. We want our dogs to be beloved pets first and foremost. For that reason we like to occasionally place a few of our dogs in homes where they will grow up, live, and eventually retire to.

What qualities are we looking for?

- Live within 45 minutes of our home - it's easier for you if you live within 45 minutes but we can negotiate if distance is the only barrier. (**We do have some guardians that live more than 2 hours from us, but they are willing to travel to us regularly at their own expense.)
- Communicative - this program requires a lot of communication between us and the guardian home.
- Honesty, trustworthiness, and integrity.
- Willing to function as an extended part of our Shurbeez Shih Tzu family.
- Willing exactness in following the contractual obligations:
- Regular visits to our home,
- Specific vitamins and foods,
- Using our repro. vet, NO EXCEPTIONS
- Grooming the dog according to our guidelines,
- No dog park visits for the duration of the contract,
- Etc.
- Willing to train the dog to be a good canine citizen, willingly obedient, easily handled, and non-reactive pet.
- Understand that we have the final say in the care and maintenance of the dog until the contractual obligations are completed.
- Have a fenced & secure yard.
- Have NO other unsterilized dogs of the opposite gender.
- Have previous pet experience or willing to learn.
- An individual or family who wants a top quality dog. Their top priority is the excellent health of and care for the dog. They are willing to care for the dog according to our guidelines.
We offer training, guidance, and
monitor each Guardian Home.
Every Guardian will:
- Feed the dog(s) NuVet Plus vitamins daily, at their cost. (Shurbeez will provide all supplements for females during pregnancy)
- Feed dog(s) an approved premium food, probiotics, and treats at their cost.
- Pay for the day to day needs of grooming, daily care, and clothing, leashes, and any other daily living expenses.
- Groom (professionally or at home) the dog at least every 5 weeks, weekly nail trims, and at least 1 bath per month - or more often if necessary.
- Use our reproduction specialist Vet (or another approved vet) and provide and pay for regular veterinary care including but not limited to vaccination, deworming, and procedures unrelated to breeding, (Shurbeez will pay for all expenses associated with breeding).
- Train dog, by yourself or with a professional trainer, to be obedient to basic commands, no jumping on people, sit, come stay, kennel or crate, etc.
- Potty train by one year old.
- Pay for any necessary obedience training,
- Keep dog currently licensed in county in which they reside.
- Bring the dog to our home for short visits every 4-6 weeks.
- Bring the dog to our home for breeding, whelping, testing, or any other requested time.
- Be allowed to send your dog to our home for boarding, at no cost to you, while you're on vacation - (if not taking him/her with you.)
- Follow all contractual obligations.
- Remain honest in your open communication about the guardian dog(s) in your home.
- Not have any unaltered dogs of the opposite gender in their home, or allow access to any unaltered dogs of the opposite gender.
- OPTIONAL - AKC events, shows or extra certifications. (Shurbeez would pay for the AKC official documentation of titles.)

The fee is not the "cost" of the dog. The fee allows you to be a part of the program.

The fee to be a guardian home for a Shurbeez puppy/dog is $1000 or less , you'll have the opportunity to earn extra monetary rewards for additional certifications, etc.
We will pay for the spay/neuter and final dental procedure, if dental is necessary, if/when all contractual obligations have been fulfilled - before signing official ownership over to you.

What is the process to qualify to be a guardian?
- Fill out an application, be 100% honest - dishonesty can disqualify you at any point in the guardianship.
- Video Interview.
- Home visit in your home.
- Match dog with your need/preference. (At times we have dogs waiting for homes, other times there's a wait for you.)
- Sign the Guardian Home Contract, pay the fee.
- Take the puppy/dog home!
