The Shurbeez Difference
It is our desire to breed the best Shih Tzu puppies available.
We accomplish this by starting with the most healthy dogs we can. We genetic test each of our breeding dogs long before they are ready to have puppies, feed them the best foods, keep them up to date with vaccines and vet care, carefully monitor their health, and regularly deworm. It is of paramount importance to us that our dogs are healthy, happy, well adjusted adults first and foremost. We will never breed dogs that display undesirable traits or behaviors.
After our puppies are born we begin training them right away. As a companion breed it is extremely important that we help our puppies develop the skills necessary to become an enjoyable life-long friend. We start with Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) beginning when puppies are 3 days old.
The Biosensor (Super Dog) Program was developed by the US Military to help jumpstart the neurological systems and help create lasting health benefits for the dogs who are used in military operations. They found that the dogs who participated in their 5 handling activities, from day 3 to day 16, experienced improved cardio vascular performance (heart rate), stronger heart beats, stronger adrenal glands, more tolerance to stress, and greater life-long resistance to disease. For us, at Shurbeez, ENS is just the tip of the iceberg.
After our puppies have gone through this two week period of ENS training, we move on to the next phases of training that last until the pups are 12 weeks old and ready to go to their new homes. Yes, 12 weeks is the breed standard for keeping puppies with mom and littermates and it makes a huge difference!
In these 12 weeks we spend countless hours with our puppies as we have protocols that help them with positive reinforcement, clicker training, conditioned emotional responses, confidence, household and common sounds, toys( textures, sounds, tastes, motion), people- (kids, adults, seniors), activities in and outside, heights, potty training, trips into the wide world, 12 point body handling, baths, nail trims, hair clippers, tooth brushing, face washing, ear hair plucking, multiple floor surfaces, new daily adventures, beginning crate training, etc.
It is extremely important to us, that the puppies we produce become dogs that adapt easily to any situation without fear or anxiety holding them back. As a conscientious breeder, we are extremely careful to provide only positive experiences for our puppies and watch carefully for any negative emotional responses so that we can help re-shape those responses while they are here with us. We will never send a puppy to it's new home unprepared for what life has to offer.
**We occasionally offer Full AKC rights to reputable breeders we know well. If you'd like to be considered for this please let me know. There is an additional charge for Full AKC rights.
In the link below you'll find a general idea of what it is like to pay for the expenses of owning, caring for, and raising breeding dogs. This is a bit tongue in cheek, but really there are so many costs that breeders just absorb into the cost of our programs. This file is just a quick glimpse. :)
